- Service access. If you can't reach the cylinders or battery, repair time will hurt more than the purchase price.

Check where the O2 sensor bungs sit before you mount the pipe. On one DE5 downpipe install, we left a bung facing the transmission tunnel. The wiring touched it by the third test drive. Burnt wire, melted harness, two days of repair. Not ideal. A five-minute test fit would have caught it.
Do not reuse the old gasket to save $12. A fresh crush gasket is cheaper than chasing an exhaust leak. And confirm whether the tune is written for a catted or catless downpipe. That is the difference between a clean install and a check engine light that won't go away. Also check local emissions rules before ordering. Many aftermarket exhaust parts are off-road only, and on a street-driven car, that matters.
5. What should I use for car soap?
